Diagnosed with Uterine Fibroids?

It’s Time to be Free from Uterine Fibroids

Many women are in the dark about uterine fibroids, although they certainly know about the pain and discomfort it brings.

Uterine fibroids are fibrous, non-cancerous tumors that grow within the uterus. Women tend to experience prolonged and painful menstruations, pelvic pain, cramps, pain during sex, frequent urination, and fatigue and tiredness caused by anemia. Past treatments included radical hysteroctomies, invasive open surgery and less-invasive laproscopy - all of which are viable options but not always successful.

There’s a better way; at Fibroid Care NYC at Sinai Diagnostics, we proudly offer a truly non-surgical, modern technique for treating uterine fibroids. This pioneering techniques is called Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) and its advantages are plenty. They include:

-Pain-free, non-surgical treatment without any need for general anesthesia, or hospitalization.

A procedure that typically lasts only an hour.

What Are Fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are a type of growth that proliferate on the muscle tissue of your uterus. These growths have a rubbery texture and are very different from normal tissue. Fibroids may grow slowly or at a quicker pace. Some shrink back down on their own while others go through tremendous growth spurts. They also range in size from microscopically small to those that can actually increase the size of your uterus.

Some of the more common symptoms include the following signs:

  • Heavy menstrual cycle
  • Menstrual cycles that happen more frequently than 28-30 days
  • Painful menstrual cycles
  • Pain during or after sex
  • Bladder pressure that causes frequent urination
  • Severe pelvic pain

WHAT IS Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)?

Uterine fibroid embolization, or UFE, is a nonsurgica, minimally invasive fibroid treatment procedure that places a catheter into your artery that brings blood to your uterus and guides the catheter toward your arteries that bring blood to your fibroids. When the catheter is in place, small, bead-like circles are injected into your small arteries. This causes the blood flow to your fibroids to be blocked.

How is a UFE Performed?

After you are sedated, your physician will use a needle to put a catheter into your groin to gain access to your artery that brings blood to your uterus. Once the catheter has arrived at your fibroids, microscopic beads are injected into the blood vessels that feed your fibroids. At this time, the beads will block the flow of blood to your fibroids. This fibroid treatment will continue until all blood flow is completely blocked. We thread a catheter through a small opening into your femoral artery. No large incisions are necessary, which reduces healing time and the strain on your body while escalating the safety of the treatment.

UFE procedures are usually very effective. The chances are good that you will eventually return to your normal rate of menstruation. This is due to the fact that a UFE preserves your uterus. As time progresses, symptoms are sure to improve. Studies have even shown that 75% of women who undergo this procedure experience a marked improvement in fibroid-related symptoms. These women were also able to resume their normal routine within a short amount of time.
